FAQ
A) For deliveries, generally skips are placed on driveways. The driver will check with you for the placement of the skip. The driver will then position his lorry to be able to drop the skip in the requested space, start to lift the skip up on its chains, off of the lorry and onto the ground where the requested space is.
A) A driver will come to site with an empty skip. This will be placed in the position of your choice, the driver will then lift the full skip, place it on the lorry and take it away.
A) When collecting a skip, generally a drivers’ lorry will be empty. The driver will then place the chains from his lorry onto the full skip, lift this on to the lorry and take it away.
A) Unlike other companies, if any damage has happened on site and it is our responsibility, we will cover the costs for the repair.
A) In order to be able to safely remove a skip from site, the load within it will have to be level with the sides of the skip. This is to ensure upmost safety when going to and from site.
A) If a skip is required on the road, we can apply for a permit from the local council. Depending on which council it is will depend on how many days’ notice is required and how much the permit will be.

A) WEEE stands for the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive which oversees the correct treatment of electronic waste.
Option 1: Do you know if a WEEE certificate for your waste is required?
Usually, a WEEE certificate is required for electrical waste being collected from government departments such as schools & hospitals but also some building sites. WEEE certificates are usually required for skips full of TV’s, PC Monitors, Air Conditioning Units or Fridges. If just a few are mixed within general waste, this rule may not apply.
If the waste originated from a Government Department or your items are in the list above, you are likely to require a WEEE certificate and we are not able to process the waste at our Recycling Centre in Rainham. We are able to appoint an approved contractor such as Envirocraft.co.uk email: customerservices@envirocraft.co.uk telephone: 0800 086 2521
Option 2: If a WEEE certificate is not required & the electrical items being disposed of are not any of the above, we can accept them at our depot mixed within your general waste, or if the skip is full of electrical items only, classified using the EWC below.

A) When delivering/exchanging/collecting a skip we allow up to 15 minutes inactive waiting time on site. Anything longer than 15 minutes on site is charged at £1.00 + VAT per minute after. These times and charges apply for Grab jobs also.
A) Usually skip hire is for 2 weeks. Generally, it is not a problem if the skip is needed for a little bit longer than this.
A) Most things can go in a skip. We are not licenced to carry liquids, asbestos or any hazardous waste. We can accept Mattresses, Tyres, Cannisters, Fridges, Freezers or Sofas but there will be an additional charge of £50 + VAT per item.
A) We can offer a confidential waste skip which has lockable doors on. Once we collect this, we can bring it to our yard where it will be completely destroyed and you will receive a ‘Certificate of Destruction’ as proof of this.

A) Online orders require payment by Credit / Debit card. We also accept Bank Transfers, Cheques and Cash (handed to our drivers). Payment must be received before we take waste away.
A) When you are ready for collection you can call our office and we will book the collection in for a time that suits you.
A) Providing we have access to the skip and it is paid for you do not have to be in for the collection.
A) We operate Monday-Friday between 7AM-4PM and Saturdays between 7AM-12PM. We do not operate on Sundays or bank holidays.
A) We offer two-hour delivery time slots between the hours of 7AM-4PM. Out of hours jobs can be requested.
A) Usually, we can drop a skip over a wall with a maximum height of 3 foot.
A) Fly-tipping is illegally dumping waste at a site which does not have a licence to accept it. This can vary from places in the street to open area land sites. Fly-tipping is a serious criminal offence which you can be prosecuted for. If a fly-tip is found and investigated, it may be that the waste producer (yourself) can be led back to and you will be liable for the penalty. This is why it is important to ensure you are working with a trusted waste management company and receive a Waste Transfer ticket to prove your waste has been disposed of legally and correctly.
A) We have been a well-known, family run skip hire company for nearly 40 years. We have a Waste Carriers and Waste Management Licence issued by the Environment Agency to assure you your waste will be disposed of correctly. Some other companies, who are not fully licenced waste disposal companies, may seem cheaper and this may be because they are collecting your rubbish and fly-tipping it elsewhere.
A) When a potential employee applies for a driver position with us, generally we require 2 years’ experience. We check that they have the correct licence for the job they will be doing (class 1 or 2), and that it is valid. We will then do a licence check to see if they have any points/driving offences. When starting with us, the new driver will be sent out with one of our existing drivers to check their knowledge of carrying out works safely. Sharp Skips drivers also have regular assessments of their driving by our in-house transport manager as well as a third-party assessor. All drivers are also required to complete a CPC course which is upheld.
A) We understand sometimes you may not have the room to drop a skip or you may be ready to load the skip straight away. For this reason, we offer a load and wait service which is where we come to site, lower the skip but leave it on its chains and wait for up to 1 hour whilst you load it. One hours loading time is included in the price, anything over 1 hour is charged at £1.00 + VAT per minute after.
A) A caged van is a type of vehicle we can use for waste collections instead of a skip. Similar to a load and wait, we would wait on site for up to 1 hour whilst it is loaded by you. A caged van is roughly equivalent to the size of a 10-yard skip. Caged vans are convenient for quick waste removal. We can only accept up to around 1 tonne worth of rubbish so generally there cannot be any bulky/heavy material on a caged van.
A) A waste broker acts as a contact between a skip company and a customer to arrange a job. Usually, they would call around for the customer to get them the best price. Waste brokers do not own a skip or a lorry.
A) As we would not want to give you an incorrect estimate of what size skip you need, we have a link on our page under ‘Gallery’ which will show you all skip sizes we offer and an approximate of how much will fit in each skip.

A) We have a variety of skips including:
2-yard – 12 yard open top – for waste to be loaded over the sides of the skip.
4-yard and 6-yard drop-door – these skips have a door one side which drops down to help waste that may have to be wheelbarrowed into the skip.
4 yard – 12-yard enclosed – these skips have lids on the top which can be lockable to ensure no one can have access to the rubbish within your skip.
A) Please see the ‘Service Areas’ tab on our website and check the map provided to see if we can cover your area. If you do not see your area on there, please feel free to call us and check if we may be able to go there for you.

A) The biggest skip size we can offer for heavy material, such as soil or stone, is up to an 8 yard. This is due to weight restrictions that a lorry is allowed to carry.
A) Once items have been transferred to our Recycling Centre they are promptly inspected & processed, therefore it is unfortunately not practical for us to recover & store them for collection. The best way to avoid this is to ensure that your waste does not include Mattresses, Tyres, Cannisters, Fridges, Freezers or Sofas unless you wish to pay for them at £50 + vat per item.
A) We are able to deliver a skip or roll on off container charged at our standard transport rate (or you can bring your tyres to our depot in Rainham, Essex). You will then be charged £290 + vat per tonne (for every tonne of tyres - min 2 tonnes) and provided with a compliant controlled waste transfer note.
A) Yes we accept Tarmac, Bitumen, Asphalt and Coal Tar. This material is generally heavy so the largest containers available for this type of material is an 8 cubic yard skip (charged as general waste) or 20 cubic yard roll on off (charged as inert if it is loose and unbagged or Rubbish rate if it is bagged). Grab Loaders can take this material which is charged at the same rate as Hardcore if its loose and unbagged or Rubbish rate if it is bagged.
A) Process for Disposing of Hazardous Wood:
From 01 September 2023, certain types of wood from buildings demolished or refurbished before 2007 will be classified as hazardous (EWC 17 02 04* or 19 12 06* or 20 01 37*). This includes materials such as barge boards, external fascia, soffit boards, external joinery, external doors, roof timbers, tilling cladding, tilling battens, timber frames, and timber joists. The RPS250 regulation will be withdrawn, meaning waste wood must be segregated into hazardous and non-hazardous categories at the source.
Our Charges for Hazardous Wood Disposal: There are no additional charges unless a Hazardous Consignment Note is required. Customers can continue to load bins booked for timber & general waste as before, and we will sort any residue of contaminated timber mixed in the bins. For customers who want to load all contaminated timber and require a Hazardous Consignment Note, the approximate charges are as follows:
• Skip/Roll-on Transport: The cost depends on the location.
• Contaminated Timber (EWC 20 01 37*): Guide Price @ £295 + VAT per tonne (min 2 tonnes).
• Hazardous Consignment Note: Guide Price @ £75 + VAT.

A) Yes, you can dispose of carpet using our skip services.
There are two options available:
1. Mixing with General Waste: You can mix carpet with other general waste at no extra cost, as long as the carpet comprises less than 10% of the total waste mix.
2. Carpet-Only Load: Alternatively, if you choose to fill the skip entirely with carpet, we will apply a different charge. This includes a Transport Rate, which varies based on location, and a disposal charge calculated per tonne. We weigh the carpet at our waste transfer station, and the charge will be based on this weight. Please contact us to provide a specific cost estimate for this option.
