Transforming Recycling Practices - We Help You Stay Ahead

The UK Government has introduced its 'Simpler Recycling' reforms, designed to reshape recycling nationwide, improve rates, and make waste management more consistent. But what does this mean for your business?

At Sharp Group, we’ve simplified these changes into three key points to help your business comply effortlessly with the new regulations.

1. Separate Recycling from Rubbish

The ‘Simpler Recycling’ rules will apply to businesses and households alike, and with businesses contributing significantly to local waste, compliance is essential.

Your business must now separate:

  • Food waste
  • Dry recycling (paper, card, plastic packaging, glass, and metal)
  • General waste

This means you’ll need at least three distinct containers.

At Sharp Group, we’re equipped to manage each of these waste streams effectively. Whether you need separate collections for each material or a convenient mixed recycling service, we’ve got you covered.

By 31 March 2025, all local authorities will be required to recycle the same materials. Stay compliant and let Sharp Group handle the logistics for you.

2. Focus on Food Waste

All food waste producers, no matter their size, will need to separate it for collection. Separating food waste not only boosts recycling rates but also enhances your business’s sustainability credentials—something 81% of customers value when choosing where to spend their money.

At Sharp Group, we offer tailored food waste collection services:

  • Scheduled collections as frequently as you need

3. Key Deadlines

Keep these milestones in mind:

  • By 31 March 2025: Businesses with more than 10 full-time equivalent employees must recycle:
    • Paper
    • Cardboard
    • Plastic bottles, pots, tubs, and trays
    • Glass
    • Metal (tins, cans, aerosols, lids, food trays, and foil)
    • Food waste
  • By 31 March 2027:
    • Businesses with fewer than 10 full-time equivalent employees must meet the same recycling requirements.
    • All businesses must include clean, dry plastic film in their recycling collections.
